The second race of the season features five special stages. There will be plenty of new trails and sections at the classic venue. Will we see a new winner on the men’s long course?

This weekend, the Slovenian Enduro Cup, the SloEnduro series, continues with a replacement second round in Ajdovščina. After the May SloEnduro Borovci was changed to a non-competitive SloEnduro Day format, the experienced organizers from the Kamplc Club stepped in. At the start of the season, they were unable to obtain the necessary permits for their SloEnduro Day, but later succeeded in doing so for a full-fledged race. Following a spectacular season opener in April in Nova Gorica, we return on June 6 and 7 to the well-known venue in Ajdovščina.

The Kamplc race was first held here back in 2017, but before organizing races in Ajdovščina, the Kamplc team was the first in Slovenia to start hosting enduro races in nearby Javornik Bike Park. They held their first race there as early as 2011, the first ever enduro race held in Slovenia. Two events before the start of SloEnduro, three more under the SloEnduro on Javornik, nine in Ajdovščina—if we count last year’s SloEnduro Day as well… this will be the fifteenth (Slo)Enduro Kamplc!

The Course

Those less enthusiastic about the abundance of climbing got a bit of a break this time. On the long course, they’ll cover about 1,000 meters of elevation gain across five special stages. But the race is still expected to last no less than 19 minutes.

Although this will be the tenth enduro race in Ajdovščina, at least a third of the course will be new. Many sections are new and have never been used in a race before, while others may have been used in the first two editions.

Special stage number 1, Marjo, is completely new. Stage number 2, the good old Kamplc, has been slightly modified. The short Frutabela, stage number 3, will be significantly changed. Kosa, this year’s Shimano SuperStage and stage number 4, has a completely new lower section. The 4X track, stage number 5, has never been used in a race before, and it’s quite different from the 4-cross racing days.

The “Power Stage” for the e-bike category will run parallel to the 4-cross track.

The Field

The list of registered riders includes 216 names from the “standard” five SloEnduro countries—locals and neighbors, that is. There are fewer foreign riders than in the first race, and of course, no strong e-bike category. The date added to the calendar at the last minute and the busy school days for students have taken their toll, but the competition is far from weak.

However, it could well be that this time around, the top spots will be taken by less familiar or even new names. In fact, only one previous winner of a “big league” race (4Fun races not counted) who is still competing in the elite category has registered: David Ivartnik (in the masters categories, former winners Gerd Skant and Nejc Huth are also registered). Among the men, it appears that none of the top five from Nova Gorica, including Vid Peršak, will be at the start. For the first time in a long while, there were no juniors among the top five there; this time, they’ll have a better chance.

The women’s field will be more standard, including the three fastest Slovenian women from Nova Gorica led by Nežka Libnik; the competition is spiced up by two Austrians who have frequently been among the fastest, Alexandra Eckert and Lisa Leeb. Neža Štern is returning after missing half of last season due to illness.

The U15 boys have apparently already finished their exams, as the date didn’t pose any problem for them. As many as 48 are on the list of registered riders; they will be the largest category of the weekend.

Where and When

The venue is also new—at least for enduro! It’s the finish area for the 4-cross course on Vilharjeva Street, just a stone’s throw from Hubelj stream, below the Škol hill. That’s where the roll out, timing, and awards ceremony will take place.

The schedule is standard: training on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the roll out on Sunday from 9:30 a.m., and the awards ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Live timing here

Weather forecasts are still quite varied at this point, so we’ll have to wait a bit for a truly reliable forecast.
