A big enduro event on the second level of enduro racing in Slovenia. This is how one could describe Golovec trails race in Ljubljana.
It is a 4Fun series event but even in conditions of limited traveling and gathering it attracted almost 200 riders from all over Slovenia and also from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Italy (we count Jonathan Tubman as Slovenian, hah…).
There is no such thing as blind racing on Golovec trails since it’s a system of legal trails on a hill in the city, just some improvements from year to year. The four special stages were once again moving from West to East, from Three Brothers to Dragon’s trail to Frog trail and Mayor’s trail with U15 riders skipping the last one and heading straight to the finish in the new event area at Urban Ring Hotel next to the southern railroad.
It’s roughly 100 vertical meters of climbing for each trail so not a big climbing day. The conditions on the trails were super dusty and slippery so many riders returned covered in dust after crashes.

Most top SloEnduro riders sitted the weekend out before SloEnduro “big league” continues next weekend at Kamplc Enduro and some battling it out at EWS Pietra Ligure. It was a different set of names on top.
Matjaž Istenič (in cover photo), a former SloEnduro very fast regular, won the overall at 2020 Glovec trails with steady pace and without a single stage victory. Dragomir Založnik, a total rookie, surprised everyone with second overall, just 0,17 behind Istenič, and win in SS4. Nejc Huth (Energijateam.com), the only SloEnduro big name on top, finished third, 4,16 behind Istenič. Local rider Anže Žabjek (Golovec trails) finished in 4th and fastest junior Enej Podlipnik (Rajd Ljubljana) in 5th place.
National champ Tina Perše (Calcit bike team) was the fastest woman in front of Tamara Homar (Energijateam.com) and Tina Smrdel (MBK Črni Vrh).
No less that 30 riders of the U15 category took on the shorter 3 stage course Ažbe Kalinšek (Rajd Ljubljana) won the race with Juš Ažman (KK Završnica) in second and Lovro Kojzek in third.

Ljubljana MTB vikend
Golovec trails enduro was the final event of the inaugural Ljubljana MTB vikend festival which included more than 20 events between Friday and Sunday – races, rides, classes, trail building, a benefit pumptrack session, a conference… and a party!
