Almost a month after the opening of the SloEnduro 4Fun series near Gorizia we finally kicked-off the »big league« SloEnduro series as well just a short drive east from there in Ajdovščina.
And what a kick-off! Kamplc Enduro is the oldest enduro event in Slovenia, two years older than SloEnduro since it was held in 2011 for the first time. Last year’s edition, the second one held in Ajdovščina, also won the title of Event of the year.
This time Kamplc attracted a record number of riders of any SloEnduro event held in Slovenia so far. 202 took on the full course and 38 more (U17, U15 and U13 categories) on half course.
The week before the event was wet. But already on Saturday, the training day, the conditions in Ajdovščina were fine and grip was great. There was some rain on the morning of race day but then the bora winds picked up. Pretty weak »burja« locals said but enough to chase the rain away. Crosswind was messing with riders in some sections but since most of the course was in the woods this did not represent a major issue. Except for sponsor banners, tents and inflatables.
Check the race report to see how racing turned out:
Vid Peršak and Yana Dobnig ended on top of the result lists. Vid for third time in a row, Yana for the first time.
“A good start to the season, I can’t complain,” said Yana who will be attending three EWS races this year. “The new bike is also working well and I liked the stages. I also got away without a crash, that’s also good. The second stage was pretty windy but the other ones were okay.”
“I started well, got into the flow but then snapped my chain right on top of Frutabela, the second stage,” Vid told after the race. “So, a bit of confusion for the start but then it got better and better as the stages got longer. Even if the stages were short it was not an easy race. You had to concentrate for each stage just as if they were 15 minutes long. There was not much change to make up time and the riders were fast. But it was easy to lose time.”
Out of course
Kamplc Racing Team are the guys behind the Kamplc Enduro event. They are also fast riders, especially the boss Sebastjan Stres and the youngster Tim Jež who is turning out to be Vid’s challenger. But this year their Sunn race bikes are late and they were forced to sit out their home race and take roles in the organization. What a pity!
For the first time Kamplc Enduro was also part of Ajdovščina Bike Festival, organized by Črn trn (Blackthorn) club. The two local bike clubs were not exactly known for excellent cooperation and it looks like all that is behind them now which is great news.
Another first: the SloEnduro timing partners Mags Timing fort went live online with race results on the sportident.com website.
You can find all the stage times there so you can see that Matthias Stonig won the first (Valdo) stage, then Luka Berginc won the second one (Frutabela where Peršak snapped his chain and coasted to 2nd place), then Peršak won the 3rd (Klop/Kamplc), 5th (Kosa/Ilegal) and 6th (Škou) while Erwin Ronzon was fastest in 4th (Freeride).
Now where is Luka Berginc, the downhill specialist, in the final results of his first enduro race? Sadly, at the bottom under DNF (Did Not Finish). He crashed in 5th stage and tore his shoulder ligaments so his first iXS European DH Cup race in Maribor this weekend is out of the question but he still hopes to race the World Cup a week later.
See you all at Black Hole Enduro on June 22/23. Of course, you are also welcome to drop in at one of the 4Fun series events, there are no less than five listed until then!
