Vid Peršak (Orbea Fox Enduro Team) is the winner of Sunday’s 8th edition of mass start race Matadown from top of Mt. Matajur to Sorzento in the Natisone Valley in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.
This SloEnduro 4Fun series race was the first SloEnduro event of season 2020.
With the time of 25 minutes and 16.31 seconds Peršak, the four time SloEnduro champion (2015-2018), also set the new record of the 12km track with 1400m of elevation drop.
Erwin Ronzon (Team Ridin’ Two) finished second 2:25 back and Davide Dal Pian (Team Bikappa Bikes) third 2:52 behind the winner.
Olesia Ronzon (Team Ridin’ Two) was the fastest woman in front of Lucrezia Braida and Eli Cos (both Team Granzon).
74 riders from Italy, Austria, Croatia, Great Britain and Slovenia took part in the final.
“In these times, when racing is a luxury experience, I was happy to respond to the invitation of organizers of Matadown. I heard some thing about the race before but I never imagined it could be this good,” said Peršak. “I am happy I had a great ride on this lengthy and difficult track. The mass start was a battle from the beginning, I attacked from the second row start positions and I managed to take the lead after a couple of minutes. Then I switched into higher speed and had my own race to the finish line without major mistakes! This was my race season opening and confirmation of good training so I’m looking forward to the first EWS race at the end of this month!”
