The Villach rider fastest in 6th edition of mass start race of the SloEnduro 4Fun series with a new record time and the fast lady from Pula defends her win in women’s field.
On Sunday the organizers from Vallimpiadi and ASD Maglia Nera put on the sixth edition of their unique event. The Matadown is a mass start race starting from the top of Matajur mountain and finishing in San Pietro al Natisone 12,5km and 1400 elevation meters lower.
There were 112 riders from Italy, Austria, Croatian and Slovenia on start and for the first time they started in three heats. Namely there was a women’s group taking off in between the two men’s groups.
The Croatian enduro champ Gorana Težak (Adrenalina Giant MTB Team) defended her 2017 victory with the time of 31 minutes and 19 seconds. It was also the 19th time overall! She was followed by 2016 winner and last year’s second placed Yana Dobnig (RLM Mondraker Racing Team) of Austria just 13 second behind and Italian Irene Savelli (Team DBS Comes Fristads Airoh ION) finished third 4:53 behind.
Austrian rider Matthias Stonig won men’s race with a new record time of 26 minutes and 14 seconds, a minute and 43 second faster that the winning time of Robert Kordež in 2016. Francesco Remoto (Fun Bike-Cussigh Bike) followed in second place 1:48 behind also winning the master 1 category and Riccardo Nadalin (ASD Techno Bike Team K2), a rider of elite master class like Stonig, finished third 2:03 behind.
Riccardo Plesnicar (Caprivesi, elite master) followed in fourth and master 4 category winner Iob Ruggero (ASD Maglia Nera) in fourth place.
Two amazing under 17 riders finished in the top ten overall: Austrian Markus Feiel (Do-Biker) in 6th place and Italian Francesco Dreossi (Team Granzon) in 8th place. Top junior Davide De Sabbata (Team Grazon) finished 9th.

Dreams and fun of many were interrupted by sharp rocks since probably a record number of riders rolled into the finish on flat tyres. But at least most escaped the storm which hit right after the race just like last year.
This was the fifth and the one before last event of the 2018 SloEnduro 4Fun series. The last one will take place on September 8th. It is the Trnduro race near Rijeka, Croatia, hosted by BBK Team Rodeo.
